Superb antique silk fabrics found at Rag Rescue

More exquisite antique silk fabrics have been put on the website this morning. These are just divine and rare.

This is an early antique tan coloured silk with woven golden spray flowers and light green fruits and embroidered silk fuschias. I would say that it is early 19th century if not earlier.

I think it must have once been part of a dress as there is a light scrim backing attached.

The silk measures
59/57cms x 15.5/11cms ----23.2"/22.4" x 6.1"/4.3"

Fantastic wine coloured silk with the most luxurious soft to the touch.

Unfortunately due to it's age there are some areas of wear and some splits. However if this was used for applique with a backing they wouldn't show. There is a lot of silk to use for projects.

57/55cms x 44/33cms --- 22.4"/21.6" x 17.3"/12.9"

A wonderful floral design on this antique silk and fine wool fabric.

54cms x 20/22.5cms ---21.2" x 7.9"/8.9"

This is in very good condition and would look great in the centre of a special cushion.

Packs of French antique gold metallic corded threads at Rag Rescue today.

Today I have listed packs of French antique gold metallic corded threads. There are packs of fine, flat and thick corded in a variety of lengths. One pack has three different threads in.
This French metallic threads are antique and will be ideal for embroidery adding a little sparkle to enhance your design. Equally they will be excellent for the restoration of antique embroidery as they have that wonderful patina that only time can bring.

“Up a flight of stairs, at the back of a leafy courtyard off the rue
Saint-Honoré in Paris, the apartment where Robespierre once lived
is now a showroom for intricate eighteenth-century-style
embroidery…” (http://trouvais.com/2009/09/10/revelry/)

I just love this The Napoleonic Bee with silk and gold threads.

Embellish with beads competition

We are all thinking of what we can make for St. Valentines Day.
Here is a competition to spur you all on.

Create anything that is embellished with beads that would be suitable for a St. Valentines Day gift. It can be large or small and you must use as many recycled fabrics, trims and embellishments as possible. Of course there must be plenty of beads.

Send a photograph of your work to me at

sandie-k (at) tiscali.co.uk

before the 10th February.

The winner will be announced here on Valentines Day.
1st prize will be a goodie bag of antique and vintage embellishments including £12 worth of Victorian beads.
Photographs of all entries will be placed on this blog at a later date, with your permission of course.

Good Luck
