High's and lows in life.

What a day yesterday was, you never know what each day will bring. I had been searching and searching for days for respite care for my mother while Steve and I go to Croatia at the end of May for my son's wedding. Panic was beginning to set in as I was told every time, that I would have to ring up a couple of days before we went away. The stress was beginning to build at the thought of possibly not being able to attend the wedding of my darling son. BUT finally at about 2pm yesterday I found a wonderful home that had pre-bookable respite care and lo and behold the dates I required were still available. Inspection reports are good and we go to have a look tomorrow. I can't tell you what a relief it was.
That was the good news at 2pm, I started work..... then at just past 3pm I received a phone call from my sister-in-law to say that Steve's mother had died. She was well into her 90's and in a way we had been expecting it as she had been unwell for a long time, but it is still a shock.
So as soon as the date for the funeral is set, I'll be ringing the homes again to get more respite  as the rest of the family live in Surrey.

In the meantime life goes on here in Morecambe and Raggy (that's me) will try and put aside the sadness for a while, in order to keep everything together here in the old fishing cottages.

Today some lovely vintage lace stash bags have been listed on the website at Rag Rescue.

Here is a lovely lace heart for my mother-in law, Mary Kerensky,
a delightful lady who loved her son and daughters dearly.

Vintage fabric strip rolls at Rag Rescue

Well it snowed here yesterday if you could call it that. It was just a sprinkling which didn't settle. I think we are the only area in the UK that hasn't got snow on the ground. I suppose we should be grateful but I must admit that I'm a little disappointed as I love the snow.

Here are today's vintage fabric strip rolls that have just listed on the Rag Rescue website. These are great for weaving, stitching together or patching.

Vintage fabric Sunday

Hubby went off to a fair this morning at 6am but I just rolled over and went back to sleep, so unlike me. Yesterday was such a busy day on the laptop taking orders that before I knew it, it was time for our evening meal.
Mum is busy in the kitchen making marmalade so I'll have to be close because her arthritic hands mean that I'm worried that she might drop the hot jars. However she insists that she wants to do it so I won't stop her and I do love marmalade.
I think I will get on with my journal today, more cutting of vintage fabric scraps which I love then when mum has finished using the sink I'll wash more Victorian patches taken from the lovely old quilt I told you about yesterday.
Anyway less of my chatter here are today's vintage fabrics. I just love small floral prints, hope you do as well.

Vintage fabric Saturday at Rag Rescue website

A few weeks ago I bought the fabric and trims contents of a house clearance. In it was a wonderful Victorian quilt although there were many patches that were damaged. I set my hubby on to unpick each good patch on Monday and he has spent all week unpicking. A great way to keep him quiet, bless him.
I just love the designs of Victorian fabrics, so as well as selling bundles of the patches I have decided to make a catalog of the designs for myself by photographing each one, printing them and making a journal for them.
When I have hand washed every single patch I will sort them out into batches ready for listing hopefully sometime in February.

Don't forget that I list items every day on to the RAG RESCUE website and today four more pieces of vintage fabric are now online in the 'Larger fabrics'category.

Here they are -
